Detroit Metro Airport (DTW)
Travel and Ground Transport
(Detroit, Michigan - MI, USA)
Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) offers travelers a wide range of affordable ground transportation options to suit every passengers' needs and possible requirements.
Serving Detroit and the surrounding area, travel and transport facilities at Metro Airport include car rental, luxury limos, public bus and taxi cab services.
Buses
Metro Airport is served by many regular public buses, known as SMART buses, that travel from the south terminal buildings, close to the transportation offices, to central Detroit and other nearby towns within the US state of Michigan. Onsite buses run daily at regular intervals and are an inexpensive and useful way to travel into the downtown district. Some hotels also offer a door-to-door courtesy shuttle bus services for their guests, traveling from the airport directly to the hotel.
Taxi Cabs
Taxis are readily available and provide a convenient and easy way to travel into nearby Detroit city and other destinations, although they are understandably more pricey than bus alternatives. The journey into central Detroit will take around 40 minutes, depending upon the time of day and possible peak hour congestion. Official cabs are recommended for obvious reasons, i.e. safety and the possibility of overcharging.
Taxi meters begin at a basic fare, but additional charges are usually made for luggage, late-night driving and travel on public holidays, so it can prove useful to ask the taxi driver about these before leaving. Some cabs are happy to accept credit cards, although generally prefer cash.
